چکیده

Fluorescence under ultra-violet irradiation has been described by one of us as a criterion for the detection of Ps. pyocyanea on culture plates (Lowbury, 1951). In mixed cultures we have recently found colonies showing typical fluorescence which proved on subculture to be Bact. coli. The colonies of the subculture did not fluoresce. It was thought that colonies of these bacteria in the original culture had picked up fluorescin from the medium on which Ps. pyocyanea was also growing. The following experiments were done to test this hypothesis.

A cabinet for the detection of fluorescent bacterial cultures.

A cabinet for detecting the fluorescence of cultures on agar media is described. The use of fluorescence as a criterion for detection of Ps. pyocyanea is compared with that of the oxidase reaction. From a series of patients with burns, all colonies of Gram-negative bacilli which gave a positive oxidase reaction yielded fluorescent subcultures on 0.03% cetrimide agar; all fluorescent cultures on...

Improved Culture Methods for the Detection of Ps. pyocyanea.

Williams, Clayton-Cooper, Faulkner, and Thomas (1944) drew attention to the fact that Pseudomonas pyocyanea may survive and even multiply in solutions of cetrimide (cetyl-trimethyl-ammonium-bromide). The use of this compound in selective media for the identification of Ps. pyocyanea was suggested by Harper and Cawston (1945), who recommended a concentration of 1 % in nutrient agar. This medium,...

Pyocine-typing of Hospital Strains of Pseudomonas Pyocyanea.

A method of typing Pseudomonas pyocyanea is described which makes use of the property of bacteriocine production. The method was applied in an epidemiological study of Ps. pyocyanea infection in a general hospital. It was found that the majority of strains believed on epidemiological grounds to be of common origin were allotted to the same pyocine type. In the course of this study, Ps. pyocyane...

Follow Up of Maternally Derived Antibodies Titer against Economically Important Viral Diseases of Chicken

The study was conducted to know the rate of maternally derived antibodies (MDAs) transfer from parents to their offspring and declining the MDAs in their chicks at 0, 7, 14, and 21 days of age against four major poultry viruses like Newcastle disease virus (NDV), Infectious bronchitis virus (IBV), Infectious bursal diseases virus (IBDV), and Avian Reo virus (ARV). The MDAs was studied on Grandp...

Study of zoonotic bacteria in conventional laboratory mice breeding colonies

To investigate the status of conventional laboratory mice colonies for zoonotic bacteria, three mice colonies, NIH, NMRI and Balb/c strains of Razi institute were studied for five zoonotic bacteria including Pasteurella pneumotropica, Salmonella typhimurium, Salmonella enteritidis, Streptobacillus moniliformis, Streptococcus Pneumonia. Study populations were 74 mice of premature, mature and pos...
